Spring Growth

Look out for new shoots in late spring – they may emerge between old stems or appear in land that’s been disturbed. The shoots look at first like dark-coloured asparagus tips until purply-green leaves begin to unfurl.

Summer Proliferation

Japanese knotweed grows and spreads at a phenomenal rate! You can identify it through its:

  • bright, spade/heart shaped, flat leaves
  • hollow stalks which are greeny with a purple mottling
  • clusters of small white flowers
